Our capabilities:


Bilfinger UK provides process engineering expertise across the whole plant life cycle from concept and front end design through detailed design and into operational support and troubleshooting.

We have experience in most process unit operations to enable us to design, advise and work with other disciplines to ensure process design intent is delivered through the whole project.

A key area of our delivery is process safety and we are experienced in Hazard Studies, ATEX requirements, overpressure protection and functional safety.


We offer expertise in equipment design and selection, vessel design and assessment, material handling systems and heat exchanger design and specification. We use these skills to support new project requirements and to assist customers keep their facilities operational.

A particular area of focus is the design and engineering of pipe systems. We have the capability to design to most major design codes and support integrity engineering of piping with our in-house specialist engineers.

We provide in-house and external services to ensure pipework is compliant to the Pressure Equipment Regulations (PER), including CE Marking.

Electrical, Control and Instrumentation

We offer a wide range of standard and specialist Electrical, Control and Instrumentation services to meet customers’ EC&I design requirements.

We can support electrical design at a range of voltages found in industrial situations and can design and specify equipment such as substations, switchboards and Motor Control Centres (MCC). We provide full load calculations and fault protection studies as required.

We have expertise in field instrumentation and can select instrumentation to suit most situations found in the process industries. We can then design the full integration of the instrumentation into a control system platform.

We have functional safety experts who can specify, design and verify instrument systems to fulfil safety function requirements. Many of our clients handle hazardous materials and we design frequently to meet ATEX requirements. All of our work adheres to the relevant industry and quality standards.

Civil and Structural

Bilfinger UK has the capability and capacity to meet all of your civil and structural design needs in support of plant modifications and new build projects. Our capabilities include detailed design of reinforced concrete, timber, masonry and steelwork structures.

We work to the latest British Standards and Eurocodes including seismic and environmental requirements and use structural analysis tools such as STAAD Pro. We can work with most buildings and structures found in a typical industrial situation including tank farms, process buildings, pipe bridges, roads and drainage systems.

We use these skills to assist customers in managing their aging facilities including site surveys and development of repair schemes.

3D Design and Modelling

Our designers work in a common 3D environment to produce integrated designs for construction. We have used laser scanning extensively to improve the results of design and to reduce time on site. We are confident with using point cloud information in our 3D modelling software.

Our approach to the use of modelling tools is to ensure compliance with BIM requirements and to be able to deliver a useful engineering model for use by our customers after the project. The use of 3D models for design reviews enables us to collaborate more effectively, identify design issues and reduce project lead-times.
