Bilfinger strengthens wind maintenance offering with Sabik Offshore partnership
Leading operations, maintenance and asset integrity contractor Bilfinger Salamis UK has announced a collaboration with Sabik Offshore to upgrade and retrofit offshore wind marking systems in the UK and North West Europe.
Strengthening the company’s offshore wind operations and maintenance portfolio, Bilfinger’s skilled technicians will install and maintain Sabik Offshore’s associated systems, whether aids to navigation, aviation obstruction lighting or safety lighting.
The companies say the partnership will aid operators who are faced with aging infrastructure by retrofitting a range of modern solutions, reducing maintenance effort, ensuring compliance with regulations and lowering cost of ownership. A recent study by Trinity House found that UK offshore windfarms have a deficiency rate of 17.26% in their marking systems.
Initially founded to service the German marine market, Sabik Offshore has been providing aids to navigation and safety lighting to customers in northern Europe, the USA, Taiwan and Japan for over 20 years. The company specialises in systems design and products for nav-aids, ID marking and aviation obstruction solutions for offshore wind farms.
Bilfinger provides a range of operations and maintenance services including alternative access, fabric maintenance, specialist cleaning and advanced non-destructive inspection in the UK, Denmark and Holland. Over the last three years the company has diversified into the offshore wind market, delivering contracts in the North Sea and Baltic Sea. The company employs over 1,400 employees and is part of international industrial services provider Bilfinger.
Bilfinger Salamis UK’s business development and commercial director Mike Henderson said: “We’re delighted to further advance our position in the renewables market by offering this new service line with Sabik Offshore. The offshore wind industry is maturing and with that come aging problems.
“Using Sabik’s advanced marking systems, our experienced technicians can address these issues, upgrading and retrofitting nav-aids and lighting with innovative technology including remote monitoring and control.
“This collaboration strengthens our commitment to deliver a fully integrated Tier 1 operations and maintenance service to the offshore windfarm sector as part of our energy transition strategy.”
Sabik Offshore’s managing director Morten Christensen noted: “We look forward to working with Bilfinger in upgrading windfarms to increase reliability and safety on the water.”
The collaboration follows the announcement of Bilfinger’s strategic partnership with leading blade repair and maintenance specialists GEV Wind Power (GEV).
The partnership offers wind farm operators a complete service for the repair and maintenance of full turbines – drawing on the specialist blade expertise of GEV alongside Bilfinger’s comprehensive range of fabric repair, cleaning and inspection services.
